In excess of 54 feet of paper makes up the cheery couple. However, I modified the design to allow the linen backing to show. As is, there are over 1500 coiled pieces which, if laid end to end, measure nearly 650 feet. A football field including the end zones is only 360 feet. Quite a chessboard, eh? Christ The solitary medallion is the complete focus of this piece. Christmas tree The 126 coiled pieces of green paper measure approximately 42 feet in length. A cream colored skirt is covered with gifts. Christmas tree ~ gilded You can almost hear the jingle bells when you're looking at this quilled Christmas tree. The tree is made of gold gilded, Lincoln green paper which is imported from England. Adorning the tree are ornaments of white English paper gilded in shiny red or silver holofoil. And, no Christmas tree is complete without a few packages around the bottom. A textured cream mat serves as a background for over 60 feet of paper. The warm golden colors at the center of the cross give way to sandy shades. Accenting the cross are handmade paper flowers. cross ~ gilded Pristine white paper edged in silver holofoil has been quilled into a beautiful cross. The holofoil gilding captures and reflects the light. The unique background mat is a dusty purple in color. This shade almost behaves as a neutral depending on the adjacent colors. Mounted on a deep mustard mat, the fruit and wheat are hand coiled and layered upon each other. The work which he titled "Woman and Horses" is done in his trademark metamorphic technique. The multi-dimensional pansies are coiled in the traditional yellows and purples while the bowl paper gives the illusion of copper. The arrangement is placed on a pearlized "tablecloth" of ivory. A sage mat serves as the background. A variety of paper types have been used ~ glistening, metallic and gilded edged. This bird sports the tight rear body plumes also. The closeup picture was taken without a flash to reduce glare and the mat does not display as green as it is. A variety of papers have been used in predominantly vibrant colors. If you look closely, you can see that the battered flag incorporates the skyline of Pittsburgh (Gulf Tower, Civic Arena dome, PPG) on the edge of the field of stars.
